Some of us have been following what few details there have been on that ERICY idea since they first mentioned it early this year. It would require major intervention on the part of the telcos as they will have to replace a fair amount of equipment in their COs in order for it to operate.

Personally I think Data Race's technology provides the most interesting possibility for combined voice + internet access since a system can be set up without involving the RBOCs. In this case your ISP would have BT-capable servers and I believe in the near future we'll be seeing BT Client as a simple software program capable of running on any of the higher-speed MMX-enabled PCs most would already have in their homes. This would also mean no changes to their existing modems.

There's always going to be problems when something necessitates RBOC involvement as they're certainly going to want to know "what's in it for them?" A great deal of their revenue comes from second lines so unless they can charge more being involved in a "two into one" situation why should they bother?
