I don't think Sony can be dismissed easily. If they
are able to ship this thing in the next 3-6 months,
they may pose a serious threat, especailly if they
use the retail channel to first build a big base, just
like Iomega did. The one thing in Iomega's favor is
that Sony is also a PC manufacturer and other PC manuf.
might be reluctant to give business to a competitor.

However, Barron's is right that Iomega looks like a
pretty fat target right now. I am glad they are splitting
soon, so atleast the stock price/share will give an
"illusion" of being more reasonable, even if the PE
isn't.

Regards,

Kunal

As a would-be Zip Killer, HiFD is nothing compared to Eric Savitz himself. I wonder if Eric has hairy legs...I'm trying to picture him in a real short skirt, shaking a couple of pom poms while screaming,
"GO SONY...GO FUJI."

This piece is more than biased, it's outright frigging malicious. I intend to share this view with Barrons...consider adding your voice if you agree.

<Just why you'll need a zip drive when that happens isn't clear.> I guess for the same reason you need a 3.5 floppy today. Once you have an established base its hard to take a piece of that away. Going to get BARRON's and read the article for myself!

The Barrons' article is indeed ominous. However, Sony is still just selling it's prototype. They have a long way to go before they actually have a thriving business in the removable media arena.

This threat should not be taken lightly and I'm sure the midnight oil is burning at Iomega. The longer it takes Sony to get to market the better.

I'm sure this has been said before (haven't caught up yet), but this article is total crap.
