I agree that, over the millennia, ladies seem to have made an effective effort of weeding out undesirable males, and must have contributed to a general improvement of the genetic pool. But, one wonders if with our "new normal" situation, with half of the children being born out of wedlock - often to unattached single women - this process of selection still continues.

...I think what started the accelerating development of science and technology was the habit of writing things down. That led to an informational "eugenics" process, with useful info being retained, and it became possible to stand on the shoulders of the giants who came before us. Nowadays, we are already in the midst of an information bubble, with more factoids swarming around than what humans can digest. Millions of us are spending days at our high tech computers, twitting and chatting and listening to millions of pop music videos.... :)

<< When there is economic incentive to produce more food, it can be done really easily and cheaply.>>

Agree. There have been numerous dire warnings w/ regards to population and food production over the years. Each time, man has found a solution and increased production to meet the demand.

Will this time be different? Time will tell. Super rice/wheat and bio engineered foods offer the scale needed to meet demand as long as the govt's / war lords allow the production.
