I fear Cube will become complacent and charge higher prices
(this is another motive for the hoards to do their own),
aiming for the high end too long. It would be nice to have
this in CE units.

Ala Ess?
Lets hope they've learned from the past.

TOKYO (Nikkei)--Digital Media Lab Co., a CSK Corp. group firm, has developed an encoder chip that conforms to the MPEG2 international standard for compressing moving pictures. The chip is targeted for professional-use camcorders, personal computers and workstations. The Tokyo company plans to ship samples from February.

The five-layer CMOS chip uses 0.35-micron processing technology, integrating 5.2 million transistors on the 13.7mm-square silicon chip. It compresses broadcasting station grade pictures at a capacity of up to 24 megabits a second. The chip operates at 3.3 volts and consumes about 4 watts of power.
