If a program or policy mentions race, then it is racist. Example, Affirmative action. The intentions may be "good", but when they come from a bad place (i.e. racist), the long term effect is going to be negative. You can't cure racism with racism.I understand that Byrd is the go to Dem for most Rs when trying desperately to make the point that Dems are racist. However, what Rs seem to forget is that Byrd was one of the few dixiecrats that didn't jump ship to join the Rs under Nixon's Southern Strategy. That's when the GOP became the big tent for American racists. Byrd is not the only example. Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter, Clinton, Obama, Biden, Reid...they have all made public racist comments. You have seen the quotes...you know they are out there. But what really matters is that the democrat programs and policies that intend to "help" minorities assume that the minorities are not good enough to succeed on their own. They send a message that they (the minorities) need to be taken care of (supporters of slavery made the same arguments). These programs and policies that make minorities dependent on government also rob the individuals of their dignity. And this prolongs the dependency cycle and, in fact, makes it worse.Showing surprise that a person of color votes for the GOP when its shown over and over again that the GOP doesn't work for that person's best interest isn't racism.......its simply showing surprise at some people's stupidity and state of denial. Its like giving more money to a friend or relative when history shows that friend or relative never pays back the loan. Some people just don't understand what's in their best self interest Your example is actually one that I should have used. All of the big cities that have the most minority poverty are run by democrats. They are in states that vote overwhelmingly democrat. The democrats have failed minorities over and over again. And yet, minorities vote for democrats over and over again. And why? because they translate free stuff from the government into "this is in my best interest". And of course, it is obvious that this is definitely not the case. How about the email showing watermelons growing outside the White House lawn? How about images depicting the FLOTUS and her daughters looking like gorillas? Here's just a few of the many racist incidents/expressions that have occurred by Rs over the past 4 years.........there are many more but I think you get the point: You are confusing points. You claim that showing Obama as a zombie is racist. Which is absurd. You then equate a gun show with the NRA, which is also absurd. You then ignore that there are hundreds of examples of Bush and Reagan portrayed as zombies. If you had stated "there are people who vote republican who are racists", then I wouldn't have an argument. There definitely are, just like there are people who are democrats who are blatant racists. But you were stating that there are national organizations that represent the GOP that are putting out racist messages. And this is where your case falls apart.
