Ted, I understand to an extent what you have seen and how stupid all of it is. How you ended up in a racist fraternity is beyond me, but then again I was never into the frat scene. As for your Latina date, if I were in your shoes I might have gone ballistic at the suggestion that she was a "maid." Racism is indeed ugly. But I see no sense in continuing to focus on the ugly. The good news these days is that racists have for the most part been relegated to the shadows, and they only dare to come out when (they think) no one is looking or they won't suffer any negative consequences for spreading their hate. As for the racists in positions of power and wealth, well that's just the "good old boy" network that is the way of the world. And I firmly believe that network is destined for a fall. I may have a polyannish view of racism in this society, but I do know that forgiveness is the start. Without it, you can never have the growth, awareness, and acceptance that you're looking for. Look at our public schools, for instance, making sure that multiculturalism is a vital part of the curriculum. I still see racist assholes coming out of our high schools. It's not ignorance that is leading to this sort of stuff, because I guarantee you that the assholes already know the facts of life. Instead, it's hatred. And getting rid of the hate begins with the heart, not the head. Tenchusatsu
