He knew it and he made a Faustian bargain! He also knew exactly how he was being used. We all knew it at the time! He's a military guy. They spend a lifetime being trained to obey commands from "superiors". All the guys in the military, grunts to Generals, are not expected but required to tow the line. Trained, brainwashed, constantly. He did what his soul told him to do, be loyal to his President, and subsequently his country. It's a great reason to keep military guys out of the State Department.

It was up to Powell to make sure he wasn't being "used". He is/was well intended, but "blew it" on Desert Storm. He never got that he was the "token" black for the Pubs and their "gang" politicos.

Nope--the evidence is that Powell trusted the "Bushies" and that they took advantage of him for it. Plus he wanted to be a team player. He did say with reference to Iraq "if you break it you own it" and boy was he ever right about that.
