What brought about this "spying on everyone" was 9/11.

Not really. What brought about this "spying on everyone" was the fact that we can. But now we have the internet.

Yes. But he's also just drunk the Kool-Aid of the culture that has always thought that the way to keep America safe is by spying on everyone, or those that feel like there's no way that's politically feasible to stop those who do. I'm not sure which Obama falls into, but both are stupid. But to his credit (at least relatively speaking, he doesn't also feel that part of keeping America safe is killing hundreds of thousands of other people (other than the white male conservatives he's rounded up in FEMA camps and is figuring out how to exterminate).

I agree. But look at it from a politician's point of view. What if he were to shut down the NSA spying on everyone program. And then a terrorist attack like the Boston bombing were to occur. Republicans would be all over it, claiming that by shutting down the program he deprived the intelligence community of needed tools that could have stopped the attack. Look at all of the controversies that have stirred up over made up stuff, what if there was actually a kernel of truth?

Don't get me wrong. I am not happy those programs exist. But I can see why they haven't been shut down.

What brought about this "spying on everyone" was 9/11. An act committed by stateless terrorists, who our intelligence agencies, who probably have sources and agents placed in every potential enemy and competitor government, had absolutely NO read on.

Huh? Bush was warned by the Germans something was up at least 2 mos before it happened. And it was the not first time that bin Laden had struck on American soil. Not blaming Bush for 9/11..........given his limited capabilities.
