I realize that there are a lot of conspiracy theorists on this thread but I tend to agree with the logic posted earlier that both ASND and the suitor wanted to drive ASND's price closer to the actual buyout figure so that the suitor could justify the premium to its shareholders and ASND would be willing to sell at that price. That explains why there was a planned leak to CNBC last Friday and a timed announcement by Mory on earnings. If we assume that this was all purposeful in anticipation of the buyout, you have to assume that the price will be 37-40 as ASND rejected 35 but counteroffered at 40.

Up until recently I was skeptical of a buyout, especially given the insider selling in low 20s, which I still find troubling and unexplainable. BUT, Maverick's recent post was quite cryptic and compelling. Why would he re-post stale news of buyout rumors today if it were not true? He can't tell us anything but he can re-post stale news about a buyout rumor. Did anyone else get the impression that he was confirming the buyout. He also warned against shorting ASND. It was also positive to hear that employee options were repriced at 24 and change. A buyout at 37-40 is starting to make a lot of sense although I still believe LU won't buy a big player until next March.

Gary: I don't think an announcement would be forthcoming in this market turbulence. The LU brass would be nervous about how the MMs would react during the ORCL turmoil. If anything, they would wait until things seemed to settle down and report first thing in the morning to give a "lift" to the market.
