Yes, I have writing covered calls against my dividend payers for years - nice steady income. Sometimes it gets dicey when they run up too fast, like in the last year. I don't like to let them get called away (low cost basis => capital gains tax) so I am constantly watching ex-dividend dates for deep ITM calls and roll them early.

I don't know with whom you trade, but as of this writing margin interest rates at Interactive Brokers are 1.58% for up to $25,000 margin debt, with slightly lower rates for larger margin balances.

Commissions are $1.00 for 100 shares, and $1.00 per option contract, in some cases slightly lower for multiples.
