If you want to see an interesting melding of statistics and psychology in koan's world, go to the View from the Left....errr, Center, thread and do a search on the word "sociopath". You will notice that any conservative politician that koan talks about, he considers to be a sociopath. Statistically speaking, only about 2% of the population can be described as true sociopaths. This is something that somebody trained in the field of psychology should know. And even accounting for the fact that one would expect more sociopaths in the political arena, you would not expect the numbers that koan diagnoses and certainly not the disproportionate leaning toward conservative sociopaths. Here are some examples:
Regarding Ted Cruz: "And he is probably sociopath and probably a sadist i.e. he likes to hate and hurt and manipulate people to do that stuff." Message 29178211 "Romney is stupid and a sociopath of the highest order." Message 28442383
Here koan uses the appeal to authority when he says that every liberal sees Ayn Rand as a delusional sociopath. Where, in this case, he is probably right that Ayn Rand was a sociopath (she definitely used and manipulated people without guilt), it is her behavior that defined her, not whether or not the liberals on the thread think she is a sociopath.
"Steve, every liberal on this thread sees Ayn Rand as a delusional sociopath. Maybe we are all wrong, but then we are all wrong. Something to ponder." Message 27896312
It's obvious that koan ignores statistics when they don't serve his purpose and his lack of respect for his own scientific field is truly embarrassing. When was the last time we saw a group of scientists misuse statistics and put themselves up on a scientific pedestal to further their agenda? Oh yeah, it was those rascally climatologists.
Looking at this whole sociopath thing has made me think a little. Why does koan use the term so much? Perhaps it is to divert the attention away from the true sociopaths????????
====================================================== youmeworks.com HOW TO SPOT A SOCIOPATH
The big question is, of course, how can you know whether someone is a sociopath or not? It's a difficult question and even experts on the subject can be fooled. If you suspect that someone close to you is a sociopath, I suggest you read both of the books I mentioned, and also read the comments on the comments page, and think hard about it. Compare that person to the other people in your life, and ask yourself these questions:
1. Do you often feel used by the person?
2. Have you often felt that he (or she, because women can be sociopaths too) doesn't care about you?
3. Does he lie and deceive you?
4. Does he tend to make contradictory statements?
5. Does he tend to take from you and not give back much?
6. Does he often appeal to pity? Does he seem to try to make you feel sorry for him?
7. Does he try to make you feel guilty?
8. Do you sometimes feel he is taking advantage of your good nature?
9. Does he seem easily bored and need constant stimulation?
10. Does he use a lot of flattery? Does he interact with you in a way that makes you feel flattered even if he says nothing overtly complimentary?
11. Does he make you feel worried? Does he do it obviously or more cleverly and sneakily?
12. Does he give you the impression you owe him?
13. Does he chronically fail to take responsibility for harming others? Does he blame everyone and everything but himself?

Number 13 stands out, but almost all of those traits/behaviors fit liberal politicians to a T. But if you think about it even more, there is another group that fits the description. I am going to break sociopaths into two groups at either end of the economic ladder. There are the "entitlement sociopaths" and the "power sociopaths". Both have similar characteristics, but the power sociopaths will have some of the traits by proxy. And the proxy for the entitlement sociopaths. There is an almost perfect synergy between the two types of sociopaths.
But the thing that is most troubling for us is what motivates the sociopath. ================================================ WHAT DO THEY WANT?
This is an interesting question. Of course most of our purposes are strongly influenced by our connections and affections with others. Our relationships with others, and our love for them, give us most of the meaning and purpose in our lives. So if a sociopath doesn't have these things, what is left? What kind of purposes do they have?
The answer is chilling: They want to win. Take away love and relationships and all you have left is winning the game, whatever the game is. If they are in business, it's becoming rich and defeating competitors. If it's sibling rivalry, it's defeating the sibling. If it's a contest, the goal is to dominate. If a sociopath is the envious sort, winning could be simply making the other lose or fail or be frustrated or embarrassed.
A sociopath's goal is to win. And he (or she) is willing to do anything at all to win.
Sociopaths don't have as much to think about as normal people, so they can be very clever and conniving. Sociopaths aren't busy being concerned with relationships or moral dilemmas or conflicting feelings, so they have much more time to think about clever ways to gain your trust and stab you in the back, and how do it without anyone knowing what's happening.
================================================ Paul V from the "Obama, We've had enough of him" thread, makes it very clear that liberals are all about winning.
Remember, politics is all about Winning!! Message 29243404 Sometimes you have to play the situation to the final conclusion with psychological and physical PAIN! It is called winning at all cost!!! Message 29106337
This is a key difference. Liberal politicians are there to win. Conservative politicians are trying to do what they consider to be "right".
koan declaring that Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin are sociopaths is absurd simply because they didn't have the behavioral traits consistent with the disorder. But more importantly, it is obvious that they were not driven to win at all costs. Quite the opposite, in fact.
Our problem is that the democrat party is so overrun by sociopaths that the organization itself has all of the characteristics of a sociopath. Democrats openly laugh at the fact that republicans/conservatives can't agree on anything and sabotage each other left and right. In fact, many of us here criticize the conservative politicians for not being more pragmatic about elections. It is far more important for conservatives to do what they think is right than it is to win.
This may be the most significant problem facing conservatives. We simply don't have enough sociopaths running for office, or for that matter, voting. Conservative politics are anti-sociopath. Conservative politics are all about personal responsibility and not about avoiding blame. Conservative politics are about being self sufficient and not relying on others to survive. Conservatives have a sense of shame if they take from others without earning it. Entitlement sociopath voters will consistently vote for the power sociopath politician who will provide them with what they are "owed". The power sociopath politicians will always provide for the entitlement sociopaths because that is how they win. It is a win/win for all sociopaths. It is very clear that socialism/progressivism are political models that are not only ideal for sociopaths, they were clearly designed by sociopaths.
Think about Bill Clinton's lies about Monica Lewinsky. Did you see one ounce of shame when he tried to float the "it depends on what the definition of "is" is". Bill Clinton...sociopath. Obama, the teflon president who never say a responsibility he didn't shirk. Instead of the famous "I cannot tell a lie", Obama will be known as the president who chops down the cherry tree in front of a live audience with coverage by five news stations and then blames the republicans. Obama's historical meme will be "I cannot tell the truth".
With the next conservative resurgence, we need to recognize who we are dealing with when we are looking at most of the socialists/progressives. They are sociopaths. And there is only one way to deal with sociopaths. Koan himself has said it. "Society has every right, and indeed obligation, to remove them from society, to protect society, but not kill them." Message 28142013
And from the above referenced link: "there's only one solution for dealing with a sociopath: Get him or her completely out of your life for good."
I agree with koan about this. The next time that the conservatives are truly in power, we need to be pragmatic and look at our long term survival. These socialist sociopaths are a cancer to a sane culture and society. We need to enact laws that require adherence to the constitution and conservative principles and remove the democratic element that undermines the constitution. People who try to subvert the constitution will lose their citizenship. They can move to Denmark. The entitlement sociopaths are easy. just stop giving them shit. They'll go to europe or mexico or someplace where they can get free shit. Until we acknowledge and do something about the fact that the socialist element in our society is also an evolutionary advantage for sociopaths, we will be constantly fighting against a foe that has no conscience and who will use our conscience against us. |
