<<Would be interesting to really find out which party is more to blame for sky high real estate prices, high energy prices, high costs of education. Much of this debate I find just plain strange. Cost of living, housing and wealth disparity is far greater in the bluest of areas such as the Bay Area while most of red deep south America is affordable and has much less wealth disparity. So GOP arguments make little sense as does your side. Somehow the Plutocrats, WS and the media are brainwashing us all Koan.>.

They are not brainwashing we liberals. We know what is happening. We just can't get anyone to listen to us.

If we were in charge we would raise taxes on the rich, and corporations big time, cut defense in half and throw trillions into pre school, community colleges, green modern infrastructure, set up single payer health care, raise minimum wages way up and help unionize the country.

And we would castrate big business and the plutocrats and make democracy the big dog going forward.

We liberals know exactly how to do it. FDR showed us the path. It is clear as a bell to me and most liberals on SI.

The cost of living has nothing to do with political ideology. The cost of living is directly tied to socio economic factors which in turn is tied to economic opportunities. The blue states have major economic opportunities, the centers of technology, commerce and biotechnology being the major opportunities. These are the wealth builders. And after the folks create this wealth, supply and demand kicks in and prices go up.

These centers of wealth are those who acquired them through enlightenment that comes with education, being well informed etc. And as part of that enlightenment, their political ideologies are shaped.

John, I have read your posts and what I gather after reading them is that you are an extremely smart person with well formed and well balanced opinions. I am hoping your point is not that the cost of living index is tied to people's political ideologies.

Not necessarily..........most southern states are in the top 20 states for income inequality:
