All you have to do, to understand what white America thought of people of any other color, is to look at the medical research- they were often used as lab rats- as were the mentally retarded. It's clear they were thought of as sub human. Interestingly, you'll find a lot of that "sub human" language on SI today (and since forever). It's the kind of thinking that allows one set of humans to treat another set like insects in need of extermination. It's too bad so many people on SI obviously think that way.
