Like it or not, I tend to believe that is related to a breakdown in religion. When I grew up, it seemed everyone was in a family unit, well except for our family as our father passed when I was young. The churches were packed, and it was like growing up in Mayberry RFD. You go to the store for your parents and pick up groceries, and they just added it to the tab, that the parents would take care of on their next visit. There was the "wealthy side of town", and we lived in what was viewed as "middle-class" at the time, however, I see family's considered in poverty today that live like the "Rich and Famous" compared to when I was a kid. We never viewed the rich as evil, we aspired to become like them, and we were taught a "work ethic" towards that end.. At least in my case, it worked. Perhaps instead of religion, it just boils down to members of the "family unit" deciding that what they want, which may not be the best for the "family unit" as a whole, is more important than the "family unit". Self Indulgence, Substance Abuse, Promiscuity etc.

The Economic Boom times of the late 1990's "Dot Com Bubble/2000" was in direct relation to the Republican controlled Congress, Democrat President passing the "Communication Act of 1996" which effectively deregulated the Telecommunications Industry which required the Ma Bell break-up companies of the time, Bell Atlantic, Pac Tel, etc to lease their infrastructure to third-parties. Money poured into Telecom like water over "Bridal Veil" in Yosemite. Global Crossing, WorldCom, etc.

Supposedly, the educated should be able to see through this veil of marketing. But, there are my neighbors, very highly educated on a formalized basis, and back to being highly leveraged with expensive cars, and huge mortgage payments which only creates tensions in members of the family unit over debt.

First of all, what are the policies of "my side"? I think I should tell you that I voted Democrat, considered myself an independent, every year of my life until 2012. Yes, I voted for Clinton, Gore, Kerry, and Obama 1st term. My viewpoint soured on the Democrats and Obama after I saw the corruption of this administration involved in an investment of mine involving a High Profile Obama donor. Several Federal Agencies made astonishing regulatory rulings, to kill one company detailed by internal emails from the White House and these Federal Agencies, that were accidentally released in Bankruptcy Dockets that were supposed to be "REDACTED", but, were temporarily visible in PACER Records. The Judge quickly had the documents removed when the entire proceeding with placed under "Deliberative Process Privilege" / Executive Privilege by the White House.
The Plantiff was attempting to sue the Federal Government due to the corruption instigated by the White House and White Hose controlled Federal Agencies in effectively killing their business for no legal reason, and colluding with other Federal Agencies, shown in emails in discovery, to move Govt. Funding/Contracts from this business to a new business developed by the high profile donor, who had slept in the Lincoln Bedroom just weeks before with large maximum donations made by himself, his wife, and several officers of the company.
Once the case was moved under "Deliberative Process Privilege" by the White House, the case was over as the entire proceeding was protected under "Executive Privilege". This resulted in the loss of $90MM in tax payer money on the Federal Loans that the original company had used to build the business. The Judge ordered that anyone who had copies of the documents/emails that were accidentally released over PACER to destroy them.

Meanwhile Cheese is up about 30%, Beef/Chicken 15%, Milk 15%. All offset by the fact that, that 60" Samsung HD TV that you paid $1,500 for last year, is now only $900. What? you don't need another 60" flat screen? But, only need Cheese, Milk, Chicken. Well, then you are not going to be able to participate in the 2% adjusted inflation rate. Surely you need one for the 2nd Bathroom.

And the wealthy cash in, (see my Pitch Fork company investment post) while the Lemmings continue to "leverage up", and kill any hopes of their long-term "financial freedom" and wealth in their future. Whose fault is it? Is it the Govt? They encourage it for good GDP numbers.. SPEND, SPEND, SPEND folks. We will keep ZIRP policies in place to dissuade you from SAVING. The consumer has a "Live for Today" attitude, but this is in my opinion, "Self-Destructive". However, those of us that made those sacrifices, made good decisions, and were smart enough not to get trapped into the "keep up with the Jones's" spending habits, are now viewed as "evil", and dishonest.
