Hi Jerome,

GE and GM are terrible examples of corporations paying no taxes.

They paid no taxes because they lost their capital (or much of it) during the credit crisis.

GE financed many building and floorplans through Genway - still writing off billions.

GM lost their capital through subprime home loans encouraged by both Dems and Republicans through its Rescap division.

To lose billions and allow the recovery of the loss through GAAP accounting by not paying taxes is written in the law code.

Bob

If those numbers are valid, you're offering evidence that even with a "real" tax rate of 19% it's still financially advantageous for corporations to move out of the country and take their jobs with them .... that should say something to you.

Oh well. Enough on this topic. Time to return the board to others for market discussions. Thanks for the opportunity to vent. <G>

This whole discussion is probably misdirected anyway since the driving issue lies with out-of-control wasteful spending rather than with tax rates. If that problem would be remedied, tax rates would resolve themselves lower to the satisfaction of everyone who would prefer to pay less tax for the quality of government that they currently receive for their money ... including corporations, the wealthy, AND the middle class.
