China's crude processing hits record high

October 27, 2014

China processed a record volume of crude oil in September, data from the National Statistics Bureau revealed last week.

Oil processing in the country rose at the fastest rate for 15 months, reaching 42.02 million metric tons of crude, or about 10.3 million barrels a day. That beats the previous record of 10.2 million barrels, seen in December 2012, and represents a 9.1 percent increase compared with the same month last year.

It's not clear whether this record level of processing stems from increased demand, or is simply a reflection of refiners capitalizing on low import prices of oil.

Some analysts believe that refining companies are choosing to take advantage of low oil prices to build up their stockpiles of products such as gasoline, the Wall Street Journal reported.

"If crude runs are high, that is because import prices of oil are very low and companies are replenishing their inventories," commented Miao Tian, an analyst for investment bank North Square Blue Oak.

Globally, oil prices have dropped to four-month lows amid an increase in international supplies of crude oil and weak demand.

Last week the International Energy Agency lowered its full-year forecast for global oil demand growth to its lowest level in five years, based on lower expectations of economic growth and the weak recent trend.

Oil prices may have further to fall. According to the Wall Street Journal, some analysts have predicted that the price will drop as much as $10 a barrel in the coming months.

Then you sure were a dumbass when YOU SAID you traveled past a refinery on Puget Sound everytime you went to your island:

No I'm not hoping. After seeing what happened up in Alaska no one would ever wish for that to happen. I go by supertankers all of the time on trips to my home up in the San Juans of Washington State and go right by the Anacortes refinery which is on the water of Northern Puget Sound. Padilla bay is right next door. The most valuable estuary in Washington State for marine wildlife and migrating bird populations.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

LOL

Hey, now, you can comfort yourself with the knowledge that the refineries in question don't know they're not on Puget Sound either ... cause their websites SAY they are on Puget Sound.

How did a high school state physics prize winning genius get into this predicament? Since you've posted BOTH that there ARE and there AREN'T refineries on Puget Sound, no matter which way you look at it, you're a dumbass. Beautiful. Only someone with your physics and flight and sailing background could have managed this, I'm sure.

Hi Eric; Re: "There are no refineries on Puget Sound."; LOL!!! Okay I get it.

The cool thing about this is that anyone who wonders about global warming can look at your opinions on "the existence of refineries on Puget Sound" and conclude that you're disconnected from reality and completely incapable of admitting even minor errors.

What's more, you don't have sufficient social IQ to know when you're just digging yourself a deeper hole. I mean really. Everyone in Washington knows that Anacortes is on Puget Sound. Here, go start an edit war to correct the wikipedia entry, LOL:

"Anacortes is on Fidalgo Island. It is surrounded by the north Puget Sound and San Juan Islands on three sides, and by the Swinomish Channel and the flats of Skagit Valley to the east."
