Archaeology confirms that the kings of that period (Omri, Ahab, Ahaziah, and Joram) constructed major public works and their military achievements are confirmed by extrabiblical sources. If you are interested in an archaeology-based, ideology-free look at the period you could download Israel Finkelstein’s latest book (free-access) "The Forgotten Kingdom: The Archaeology and History of Northern Israel:" sbl-site.org Spend a few hours or days reading and thinking about it and your knowledge of the central highlands of Israel between 1350 and 700 BCE will increase by several orders of magnitude.
