I still use 1-2-3 release 9.7 daily on a Windows 8.1 PC to make data tables and charts
those of us who remember Lotus 123
as for smart phones: the one feature I like is being able to post a picture you just took on a social web site instantly. But that's not enough reason for me to get one.

What do you do when you travel?

I too still use a desktop. It is 5 yrs old this month but the most powerful you could buy so it would last.

For $939 I got a 2.7GHz i7 Intel processor, 6GB RAM, a 7200 RPM 1TB hard Drive and a DVD-RW drive.

This weekend I ordered a new laptop for my girlfriend to replace her XP laptop we got 10 years ago. It was getting too slow to start... but probably still more power than she needed to surf the web and do email...

She likes her Tablet for travel to keep up with email and her banking.

Anyway, for the same price you get a 15.6" screen in a laptop with a slightly slower (2.5GHz i7) processor and 5200 RPM HD 1TB (She doesn't need to load huge data files daily like I do for clx and other stock stuff I update daily) but with 16GB of memory . Got it via Costco and it was $730 plus tax....

I have an i3 laptop for vacations to do my daily stock market data updates and keep track of critical data. Slow HD and small screen makes it a bear to update the files.

I'm tempted in a few years to just get a 17" (i9?) laptop to use as a brick at home so I don't have to sync the laptop to the desktop when I travel.... I find the syncing a royal pain as something always seems to stop working and it takes time to fix... Simplicity would be a powerful laptop.... and since what I have now is powerful enough and the new laptops offer similar power... might be the next step for Windows10.
