Science begins with, "Now why did that happen?", something you should have learned in 3rd grade science.

To Brumar, science begins with a conclusion based on his partisan beliefs and then looking for things that support that conclusion. Since he does that, then everyone else does also.

This allows him to be a climate denier and a creationist with a clear conscious.

It's stupid to accept some unexplained "something changed" excuse for why alleged accurate proxies once worked but no longer do.

Their proxies which they CLAIM worked for the past thousand years don't work now. So obviously they have to say "something changed." But as you note, they don't know what:

They demonstrate that something changed. They would only be audacious if they kept using them after that change happened. When they determine what that something(s) is, their knowledge will be amazing.
