I don't think so. In Compaq's own press release they stated 3Q sales in US of 1.2 mil units. In 1996 international sales excluding US was 46% of total.

Unless they had phenomenal growth in the Far East in the 3Q - I think your numbers are wrong.

PS: did the IDC report 2.8 Mil units - or did you calculate the number by taking 14% of some assumed number? These reports frequently have lotsa footnotes - you gotta check them out.

I stand corrected - you are right. My files from IDC and Dataquest do show 2.7 - 2.8 million Q3 PC sales for COMPAQ.
