Where does it say that companies should be allowed to make billions in net profit on the backs of public resources without paying their fair share. Don't think 2% is going to be that big of a hit to their bottom line. Now if we had a government that can tackle the banks, etc.

The world is simply phasing out of the fossil fuel business

..as demand drops, only the lowest cost producers will remain economically vaible

Oil sands extraction is one of the most expensive modes of production, has nothing to do with local politics

..they can't compete with Saudi production at <$10 barrel

Major projects have been postponed because of low oil prices and uncertainty of price recovery. The election of the NDP has added another business risk to operating in Alberta. Some spending will also be deferred pending the decisions to be made by the new regime. I recommend they read Aesop's fable about the golden goose.
