B_C,

I am a bit confused by your graph. Can you detail the O&G subsidies for us?

I am aware of the Intangible Drilling Costs that are just accelerated depreciation similar to the depreciation allowed for all capital investments. There the is the Depletion Allowance, which is another name for depletion of natural resources, again it is an accounting item that levels the playing field with other forms of capital investment. Are these items included in the graph as subsidies?

I am sure there are subsidies for O&G, but I am ignorant of them. Help me understand if that graph is unbiased or is slanted to make a point.

Who are Pfund and Healy? I don't recognize the names. What are their credentials?

Thanks for your help in understanding this complex issue.

Blessings,

SOJ

The subsidies for the O&G industry according to the chart and paper I just read are from 1918 - 2009. You're comparing apples to oranges.

On a per year basis O&G gets $4.9 B (how its broken down in regards to depletion, etc.) I don't know.
Per year for solar gets $ .4 B

Consumed BTU's for O&G for the latest year charted ~55 quadrillion BTU's
Solar doesn't even show up on the graph. Let's call it 1 quadrillion BTU's

55 times the consumable energy from O&G for about 12 times the "subsidies". Doesn't even take into account other products from O&G that we use everyday including manufacturing solar panels.

Yes I'd like to have been out of the ME the entire time also.

"One might question the rationality of this position, given the fact that between 1994 and 2009 the U.S. oil and gas industries received a cumulative $446.96 billion in subsidies, "

And the subsidies are?
