qdog et al: Just a brief update on the "in zone", "wireless centrex", or whatever one wants to call it. Primeco at one time made a presentation for "wc",ie no charge for time within a small geographic zone. They are too busy, or so they say, to get it up now. We couldn't wait; so opted for a conventional plan with free QCP 1900s. These will replace wired desksets for IT and maintenance staff. It will be a joy to jerk those wires out of the wall. Cell phones didn't work because of coverage problems within some buildings.

BTW Sprint and Primeco compete head to head in the Milwaukee market so media is filled with ads, particularly from the cell guys.

Primeco leads in build out with Chicago, Madison and Green Bay on line---but no Q phones and no roaming agreements for outstate areas in place so the dual mode phones don't add much at this time.
Sprint has the Q phone but smaller area built out and again no outstate roaming agreements in place. Both say sales are exceeding plan.

There sure is a lack of football talk with Ramsey gone. It would be nice to see that "old" NFL team meet the Pack in San Diego.

Happy Holidays to all and a great thank you to those who provided quality information, political diatribes, ankle biting and fun this year.

Ron

Re: Microsoft and Dole.

The fact is MSFT is investing huge amounts into new businesses, e.g. sidewalk.com, carpoint.com, expedia.com. These businesses will stand on their own merits. If people don't use them, so be it.

All these competitors are just plain scared of MSFT because of its good management, good marketing, good execution, software that people want to buy.

So what, MSFT can take the explorer icon off the desktop. Big deal.

The fact is MSFT wants to make the market work in these businesses (e.g. travel agents, brokerage) such that the margins are lowered and volumes increased. More bang for the buck for consumers LIKE US.

Dole is completely wrong to get involved in this.

And, yes, I am long MSFT.

Boxing Day today over here and SI is as quiet as Auckland's roads were yesterday. So I get to bluster a bit - uninterrupted.

Chris, you said: "There is proof of the rising effort against the EVIL EMPIRE!!!!!!!!!! Get'em Bob!!!
Dole Is Helping
Efforts to Curb
Microsoft Plans "

Bipartisan? How about Tripartisan? What about the 60% of people who didn't even vote in the presidential election? What about the 20% of people who support free enterprise, capitalism, and all the best things about the USA? Who admire super achievers. Who are not envious or destructive of rich or famous or superior people.

Chris, you'll find me in the front lines against despots, thugs and criminals. But Bill G doesn't fit into any of my categories of bad people. I guess he is excessively noisy - talking in a too loud voice in restaurants as though he is the only person there. So I hear anyway. Also, he isn't so astute as a business person as others seem to think - he tried to stop software stealing, which if he had been successful would have set his empire back a decade. Now companies know you need to give a lot of it away to get people hooked then sell them on the better products. Train the poor up by letting them get less adequate versions free. He was slow on the Web and Microsoft Network was a dog. Didn't he also decry Java as a storm in a Teacup - beneath contempt. Also, don't even whisper it to anyone, but Qualcomm should clean him right out in a few years with the Anita[TM] W-cdmaOne Weblaster. The process is already underway.

What else is bad about Bill? Umm. Evil Empire? That is silly. He is as threatening as a labrador grinning from ear to ear. He can't control our email or anything else. He can make his stuff the best. If he is very lucky and goes like crazy. Then we might choose to use it. I use Netscape and Eudora, Windows 95 and the Web.

One day, if Janet Reno destroys Bill G's software business, that time might be looked back on in 50 years as being the beginning of the end of the great era of the USA. Be careful about killing and eating your Goose Who Lays Golden Eggs. Sure, you'll probably get a couple more eggs from the inside and have a decent feed for a day or two. Then what? Hope another goose is silly enough to start laying?
