Commander Style dual pane Orthodox File Managers ...

<< My very favorite utility and I've had it for years, is Total Commander and I use it every day. >>

There are several good File Explorer alternatives and Total Commander is one of the best. So far as I'm concerned Microsoft has never had an adequate file manager since they introduced one in DOS 4 and I've used a 'Commander Style' dual pane 'Orthodox File Manager' (OFM) for 30 years starting with Norton Commander for DOS through its various versions then Symantec's Norton Commander for Windows. I subsequently used OnTrack/Avanquest's Power Desk introduced in the NT 4.0 Resource Kit.

After experimenting with several Commander descendants I settled on Zabkat's xplorer2 when Windows 7 was introduced, starting with the free 'Lite' version then the paid version which I run on my secondary (Win7) desktop. My Windows 10 primary desktop is running the free Lite version now but I'll plunk down $30 for the 64-bit xplorer2 Pro version one of these days.

• Zabkat xplorer2 is here zabkat.com

• Free xplorer2 Lite download is here: zabkat.com

• A comparison of Lite and Pro is here: zabkat.com

I see Total Commander facilitates file transfer. I have several high capacity external hard drives. For me, convenience is just copying over, say, the Documents folder now and then from my local drive to one of the externals. All of the new files transfer immediately. Then I get a message about files with the same name, which I just say "no" to except when I want to run the transfer overnight. I could have sworn "back in the day" there was a further option for the ability to overwrite files only if the destination file was an older version. I don't see that option now. Would Total Commander solve that problem? I use Win 10. Thanks.
