Jim re:What up with this unexpected price cut by INTC.
How is dell going to stay out of low price PC's when INTC is headed there ?

I am going to jump in here and give my two cents. INTC is causing pain to AMD with the latest price drop. Further more as INTC drops price so does DELL so they are headed in the same direction as INTC.

jim, how do you spell hooey????
pc's use to cost $10-20k a piece now they cost $600-2600 for 1000 times the power and dell and cpq still rocketed up.
opps, I forgot. you were still in jr. high when I bot my first pc.
you don't remember what pc started out at... that trend will continue.

I will tell you where it goes since you don't know...
more of the pc is on a chip in future but, pcs will do 1000 times more things at 100,000 times more power.
they will fit in your shirt pocket and be solar powered or have cheap throw away battery.the keyboard is dead and it's voice driven.
the screen is holographic 3-d.

there will still be design pc's but these babies will be 1000 times todays power.

go back to sleep....

We've been expecting this price cut from intel for over six
weeks. This is nothing new to insiders or to those who follow
closely. When all the newbies see the price of Dell's machines
drop in the next few weeks they'll all scream Dell's margins are
crumbling because of the sub-zero.

Dell/CPQ are technology integrators. Think about their position
and it's advantage. They are the final point of integration.
They are almost like US the CONSUMER who benefit from the
competition and price erosion of component manufacturers.

The beauty at this point is that the big 4 computer makers
have such a commanding advantage now that they are going
to control over 90% of the market within the next few years.
The small outfits can't compete... and as prices drop further,
they will go out of business. Slightly lower ASP's offset by
higher volume for Dell. They may be running their factories
at 75% capacity by this time next year with a run-rate of
> 7M systems annually.

How can you keep comparing Dell to MU, WDC etc...? They are
very different, Dell is not in this "paradigm". Would you go
so far as to say that GM, FORD and CHRYSLER would be in trouble
if Firestone, Michelin, Dunlop mis-forcasted and made too many
tires?
