Is this new news?

I heard the business reporter on the San Fransisco all news radio station, KCBS, report this after noon that the reason that Intel cut the PII price today was that AMD started to ship the K6 in volume.

If this is true, I'm going to get back in to amd and will recover some of my lossess. I was going to buy big at 16 but I will revise my buy-in price. (I'll even risk my Jan 15 tax money)

Comments Please.

Cheers..
Chris.

Profits,, did someone on this thread admit that production of the Slot 1 motherboard had not yet reached significance??

"Don't worry, the slot 1 MB has no L2 cache costs. Once significant volume happens, it will be cheaper than Socket 7."

I don't think think you'll have to worry about the justice department jumping in and slapping Intel. They might shoot themselves in the foot before the JD gets a chance.

Socket 7
Socket 8
Slot 1
Slot 2

Do you really think the motherboard and chipset producers are interested in continuing this game much longer? Do you think they lay awake at night worrying about dropping Slot X cost enough to get Intel into the econo market? Intel is not serious yet about the econo market. Cacheless PII? How many "shortened" 777s does Boeing sell to the regional airlines every year? Do they think the VARs are going to cut their profits to make up the cost difference?
