engineer, a very nice post which I think was confirmed by India's DoTComo decision today--you gotta go WLL and do it with something that works, who you gonna call? The mighty Q of course! As you all know, this tech stuff is not in my hip pocket, but, true confessions: I ran a software start-up company! Didn't know diddly boo-bop about what the guys in the next room were doing (just tried to raise $$ and sell the code) but I came away with a mighty healthy respect (and fear) of what this technology animal is. Among other things, s*hit that works, now, today, no kidding, no bugs (well, just a few) is a rare animal. No way can I believe that major telecoms are going to bet the ranch on Ericys-trust-me-it's-just-around-the-corner WCDMA-B or whatever they are going to call it. The Q done paid the dues and now it's time to collect.
That said, did anyone get the license plate of the truck that crushed us from 71 to 45? Huge compliments to all who had the cajones to load up again. Me? I decided to play a bucket full of golf and not look at the god damned market. I call it the Graham, Dodd, and Ostrich approach.
With all appropriate apologies to the off-topic critics, thanks to all of you for your irreverent, comical, sarcastic, fanatical, zany, and otherwise wonderful posts. I figure three cigars in 18 holes has my ass toasted far beyond micro-volts of photonic RF waves particularly due to the orthogonal sectorization of a good Dunhill, but what the hell, I dropped a 12 footer the other day and life is good. Happy New Year to y'all. Surfer Mike.

Engineer, If possible give us some comparison of cdma vs what ERICY proposes , wcdma. Can something like this be compared to say the amount of data a floppy disc holds compared to a cd-rom ? How about a single speed cd-rom vs the 32x cd-rom ? Both examples show just how fast technology can move . IS-95 is 1.25 and ERICY's proposal of w-cdma is 5mhz wide so it would seem logical with more band width one may be able to offer more but of course have more problems controling it. With less than 1 % of cellular phone calls being used for data I don't think ERICY is trying to push this standard to capture the data market ? I think if the standard gets approved it's market will be the fixed wll.

Has anyone done a little analysis on how the prices of differrent mobile suppliers in the US.

I phoned Sprint yesterday and asked them. They unfortunately don't cover hometown of Houston (or Chicago) but all other major markets.

In any event Q-phone $540 approx. 180 local mins $30.mnth

400 local mins $50 mnth

800 local mins $80 mnth

mins = inbound and outbound

xtra mins 15c

for an extra $19.95mnth call anywhere in US

AND and this is what really excites me NO xtra fees for roaming. i.e. if I live in New York and I travel to a territory where Sprint has coverage then I just use my phone at the same price as my home. This sounds like very good value to me.

Which other providers offer this kind of service and how do their prices compare?
