Reagan was one of the first major politicians in history to come out for gay rights

In the perpetual effort to make lemonade out of lemons (and look for the good side of every story), the one good aspect of some Republicans coming out for gays, criminals, terrorists, and illegals is that the presence of undesirables in our society provides constant examples that decent conservatives can point to when educating their children and say, "Do you see that, son? You don't want to ever be like that." Of course, the child probably didn't need the positive reinforcement at all. Pointing out undesirables and their misbehavior is really just stating the obvious. Even small children get it without being told.

Reagan had an advantage in this outlook perhaps coming from acting/hollywood president of SAG (1947-1952), and then a liberal Democrat. His negotiations in securing residuals for television actors for re-run, his shining hour as a democrat.

As governor of Calif, remember 3000 students attending speeches @ UC Berkeley doing no harm, bombed with a military payload of tear gas from helicopter. By the end of day three people dead & dozens injured. My thought then was what a stupid reactionary fool, but then he had turned republican by then, explaining all.

Saw many such stupid vindictive moves of the past, combined with Nixon, i would never pretend there was any greatness in Reagan.
