Happy New Year Peter, and thank you for your regular contributions to this thread. As far as the new upcoming features go, I would much rather have checking account access to my funds than any of the other improvements you've mentioned.

Ditto for me too Peter. I would also rather have checking account access to my funds. However, I have not had difficulty getting checks by snail mail since Jeff Kosarin started. Thanks to everyone at Datek for all your hard work and best wishes for a great 98!
Ward

Peter,

RE: Level2 quotes, is this anticipated to be integrated with an order execution system (similar to RealTick3 integrators) like ABWatley, ATTAIN, and others? Would be too kool! Also, does "short list" refer to before the third quarter98 dates identified for options, or later than that? (plenty of room for wiggle room here).

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Peter,

Thanks for all your hard work the past year and for making Datek Online work so well for us. It is much better than any other broker interface that I have used and fills my needs. Also, to both you and Josh, thanks for putting gritch.isld.com up.

Best wishes for the NEW YEAR !

Bob

Peter-

I have a complaint about Datek's service......the cretin's who run the Dept. of Finance in my state are keeping Datek out of Idaho. A woman explained to me that they felt there were too many infractions/complaints against Datek. I asked her if it wasn't that local brokerages were fighting it and she said, "absolutely not". I asked for a copy of the complaints, which were sent to me. There were 13 complaints but they had to go back to 1974 to find that many. All or almost all involved SOES(?) violations. I'm not impressed with their list, I've got that many real complaints about eSchwab myself, this year. Has Datek given up on this state or can it crack the local good-ole-boy shell? How about giving us a hand? JR

Just a quick note to commend DATEK for the outstanding fills I've received trading SPY on the AMEX. The last four consecutive trades I've made have all been executed at a price better than my limit order. This has happened without the bid or ask moving before or soon after the fill to make the reason for the fill obvious.

I had previously complained about lack of representation on this security. This is still a nagging concern of mine, but after many trades I have never been hurt by any lack of representation. It appears that Datek's AMEX rep is trading with the best interest of the customer in mind.

OPTIONS TRADING...

Peter's last estimate for options trading was 3Q98:
exchange2000.com

I, for one, would rather he take his time and get it right than rush it here, only to have it be similar to the other guys out there. I find most options trading with deep discount brokers on the Web to be abysmal. I've had accounts with Ameritrade, NDB, and Discover/Lombard and I've regularly followed comments from others on the performance of their brokers, including Dreyfus, Regal, E-TRADE, etc...

The problem seems to be mostly in reporting, not necessarily execution. I typically have to wait easily more than 10 minutes for a report back on an options execution, even though I saw the trade go through within a minute or two. It's like trading blind.

I don't think there is an online broker today that has automated options routing, but I wouldn't be surprised to see DATEK do it, at least for RAES eligible orders. Perhaps there are a lot of technical hurdles to overcome here, perhaps not....I have no idea.

Disputes about customer service and other problems aside, DATEK is all about trying to give us little guys more power. Now that all NASDAQ stocks are traded with the new limit order rules, I can better the market with my DATEK account and see that bid or offer reflected in the real time bid or ask within a couple of seconds. I have used this to my advantage on countless occasions, even if just to get a market maker to move their offers. Hits on ISLD can be nearly instantaneous, although if the order has to be SOESed, it can be a bunch slower than other brokers. No other broker let's you tie your PC directly into the market for trading stock. Hopefully, DATEK will be the first to do so with options, too (at least for RAES orders).

Marc
