There are a couple of people on other threads looking for ways to pick up stocks in Asian companies now that they are down. I have been cautioning against that because it is difficult to tell how bad off the companies really are.

Take, for instance, the big three Korean chip mfgrs. They will probably have difficulty financing the next machinery upgrades because they have not been profitable in the past. With the opening of the markets will come more disclosure and western accounting practices, secured loans, market analysis, default foreclosure, etc. I think it will be a long time before we will know if the bottom has been reached.
