Glenn,
Sorry correction, Aptis was started by SHVA/Cascade people. Which in a way makes me feel a little better. Shiva managment has got a terrible reputation, I can only hope they drop the ball.

The ASND presentation at the Morgan Stanley conference will be on Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. in the Estrella Theatre.

FYI, the first presentation on Wednesday is at 8 a.m. Each presentation is 1/2 hour in length (which makes ASND 4th). Also, multiple presentations will be occurring at the same time, in multiple ballrooms.

LU is now getting close to a position to bid higher and not have the deal close until October

Glen,

Excellent post. Question: assuming LU does want to buy LU and have it be effective in October so they can take advantage of the "pooling of interest" benefits, what's the earliest that they could finalize such a deal with ASND? Could they theoretically get agreement of such a deal with ASND, say right now in Jan, 98, and have it be effective in October, thereby obtaining the "pooling of interest" tax benefits?

"If NT acquires ASND, SHVA is history"
Glenn, I have appreciated much of what you have relayed to me in terms of these particular networking situations. I question the validity of your remark about SHIVA being "history". Nortel has an ongoing relationship with SHIVA that is about to be renewed as we speak, not only that but much of what Nortel does with SHIVA has nothing to do with what Nortel could do with Ascend, ie VPN and Lanrover. NT has relationships with many of Ascends competitors including Cabletron, would these competitors also be history if NT were to buy your obviously favorite stock ASCEND? The only people that are going to be history are the SHVA short sellers. As ussual while the herd was in dumping SHVA at 8 and 9 all the prognasticators were at their most negative opinion of SHIVA. That looks like to me like your typical bottom. By the way why is ASCEND trading at a historical low if they are such a LEADER IN THE NETWORKING FIELD? Technically the perceptions of ASCEND doesn't look any better than SHIVA's chart, despite the fact that ASCEND does 6 times the revenues.
Glenn you and I are in the same boat.
