Josh,

Is it possible to open the crypted files with the appropriate program (i.e. Adobe Reader)? You can right click on the file and choose "open with", then select the correct program.

If so, then you might be able to open them in the associated program and then use the "Save As" option to save them with the proper extension

The crypted file extension appears to associate with Ashampoo WinOptimizer:

If I did a system restore to a date before 3-14-17, the date I installed the Adobe Flash Player, would that not restore the infected files to where they were?????

I may be entirely off-base with this, but JF's problems sound similar to one I've had for a while. One of my banks always sends my monthly statement that ends up, once downloaded, with a file name of complete gibberish some 20 characters long.

I had no way of opening it and the bank acted like they didn't know what I was talking about. Once, out of frustration, I just renamed this file "bank.pdf" and clicked on it. It immediately opened perfectly. I still have to do this every month with that file. I blame Adobe, but I have no idea if that's justified.

..... and, all this may NOT even be close to the same problem.
