Money spent fighting the effects of global warming is also money which can't be spent elsewhere.

That's true. Which is why we need to be thoughtful about the marginal value of prevention dollars. And why we need to start talking about adaptation and remediation. It seems to me like this fight between the warmers and the deniers is sucking up all the energy on the subject, which is 100% wasteful. Talk about opportunity cost. Adaptation and remediation are difficult topics and should be engaging us. Triage is a bitch.

That chart shows nothing of the sort.

You will have more property and casualty damage when you have more people living in coastal areas -- a figure that has increased by 40% from 1970 to 2010.

And the biggest single expense indicated is Katrina. That damage related to a flood that had nothing to with climate change.
