You haven't paid any taxes for years, since way back when you got fired from your IT job.

Your soccer business failed, your jello wrestling business failed, and the last we heard you were driving Uber.

This country needs engineers and Dr's, not Existentialists.

A good education benefits one no matter what field they enter. An inquisitive mind is an asset. I know many great businesspeople that have degrees in philosophy, theology, or drug dealing....One of the great features of the US is that people do not pigeon holed early in life....options stay open.

That said, I do think we need far more options for young people to get trade school educations.

You just don't get it. Modern humanitarian civilization is the product of humans developing their minds to work out reason and logic and science. The great thinkers in history were not doctors or engineers, they were the philosophers! The Middle East is full of engineer's, but few secular philosophers and look how they are doing!

The countries doing best in the world are the secular countries that put great effort into educating their citizens. LIke the Nordic countries and much of Europe. It wasn't doctors and engineers that figured out democracy or ethics, it was philosophers.

If you knew your history you would know the entire foundation of modern humanitarian civilization was made possible by philosophers. The ancient Greeks ideas were used centuries after the demise of ancient Greece at about the start of CE, after the barbarians, like the modern Republicans destroyed 99% of Greek writing and libraries.

They Republicans have been trying to destroy the public school system for decades now and replace it with vouchers. In fact the Texas Republican platform a few years ago had a provision for outlawing the teaching of :"higher order thinking".

We are fast approaching the singularity and it will take all the higher order thinking we can muster to successfully negotiate it.

The result of not educating people can be seen in the election of the village idiot Trump and the brain dead sociopathic Republican party.

Many believe the rediscovery of Lucretius's On the Nature of things in the 15th century set forth a new era of rediscovery leading to a modern world. Lucretius was a poet.

This country needs engineers and Dr's, not Existentialists. I'm not sure of how much Philosophy contributes to the GDP and taxes to pay for healthcare and free University, roads bridges and defense.... I'm sure your all over it as you studied it for 4 years....

All the engineering jobs are going overseas leaving the US with a major surplus of philosophers

If you want to read Plato go to the library or join a book club... Personally I have no interest in paying taxes and healthcare costs of 3 year olds through 25 year olds so they can ruminate on Plato.
