i thank you too for your thoughful reply. i really should do some re-reading it has been a long time..funny, i can give you almost every tick of the dozen or so stocks i followed.. in methodical detail.. yet i do not remember john 3:14.. i must admit to you that i am quite disenfranchised by the modern day religious leaders.. as they rarely practice what they preach.. as evidenced publicly.. they blame their misdeeds on the devil and pray for forgiveness, not from the lord but from their flock, which they fleeced.
I say this.. do you believe it is the work of the devil {that caused them to sin} or are these just weak people using religion as a guise to live comfortably?
i think that if a man truly believes in ANYTHING that the man{or lady} will not compromise those beliefs for sloth greed, etc.. I believe in certain things and will never take his eyes off his path.. if he must it would be only to avoid graveinjury to himself or a loved one, not for pleasure, boredom or weakness..
do i committ sin? in some sense of the word i am sure someone can tell me i do..
but ifeel no remorse in drinking a few beers.. gambling occassionally.. and even going to those topless bars with my friends..
do i tell my wife about when and where i do these things..{i smoke cigarettes too} yes i do.. does she have an inkling of doubt whether i will come home faithfully or spend all of our savings "gambling drinking, etc" no because these are non routine habits{searching for a better word- i guess occurances} and she understands that there is a lot of pressure in life and that once in a will man needs to vent or go out and act in a less mature manner..
these things are not sin in my eyes, although they may be a wate of time.. they are a pleasurable diversion.
i think that there are many diversions in life.. and if you are interested in my opinion i think that the Amish people have it better than anyone i know..
they have family and friends that care about them.. they are at one with god, the land and themselves.. they don't need any of this fancy stuff, and the only thing they may miss is being able to see all of the world that was created.. hawaii, canada and the various shore point and mountain tops are a much nicer picture than places like pennsylvania.
since i live in a modern world i accept the life that comes with it..
be well jane..
