James, I am not technically literate in this area. Would you please explain why Intel doesn't use Cymer's lasers. Thanks.
Jay

<<No. They use Hg-lamp based Micrascan II QML systems. Cymer may have to wait until the 0.18um generation for Intel to be a big customer.>>

Intel has been experimenting and production (pilot line) with .25um for the past 3 years. At that time they were committed to the Micrascan II and ordered a bunch of them since the excimer stepper was not available. Since the introduction of the laser stepper INTC has been evaluating those steppers. My source (not yet verified) said that they are putting those into production in the newer fabs.

If you are working for Intel you could shine some light in this subject James.

Lucent invests $1b in Singapore: biz.yahoo.com, The joint venture would produce eight inch wafers using 0.25 micron processing technology and at full
capacity, the plant would produce 26,000 eight inch wafers per month.

The venture expects to migrate to 0.18 micron processing technology by 2000, the statement said.

Does CYMI have anything to do with this?

I agree.
What is INTC using for 180 nm design rules? SVGI or NINOY or etc? Does SVGI use bulb or laser for MS III?
Thanks
