Walking is great for all you mention but it still isn't the same aerobic workout of running, windsurfing, stair climbing or using an elliptical trainer.

In fact, walking briskly can lower your risk of high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes as much as running, according to a new study conducted at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Life Science Division in Berkley, Calif. All three conditions are risk factors for heart disease and stroke — and you can do something about them.

My BMI is horrible at 30.1

Something does not compute. You must be gorging yourself with bad stuff (e.g. grains, sugar, alcohol, etc). My BMI is 22.5, but was 25.1 before I began walking. BTW 30.1 puts you in the Obese category!

My resting pulse is <50, BP 101/65 at rest. Have you ever had a EBCT heart scan for calcifications? Have you had the NMR LipoProfile? If I were you I would want those to check for potential issues. The NMR Profile is much better at predicting heart health than the usual cholesterol numbers.

Don't fool with your most important wealth (good health).
