The point of my post was to prove you were wrong when you wrote that tariffs are not taxes. They are!

My earlier point is it is hard for me to get to get a handle on tariffs when the OTHER taxes paid and subsidies governments give this or that industry are also included.

It is all very complex... and Trump looks even more foolish going after Harley for building hogs in Europe to sell in Europe to level the playing field with his new tariffs. What did he expect would happen?

If you recall, important wars were started over protectionist taxes to preserve politically connected companies.

The Tea Act of 1773 was one of several measures imposed on the American colonists by the heavily indebted British government in the decade leading up to the American Revolutionary War (1775-83). The act’s main purpose was not to raise revenue from the colonies but to bail out the floundering East India Company, a key actor in the British economy.

Toleration of varied viewpoints is a healthy sign in a democracy.

Please tell that to your fellow Democrats, Academia, most of the media, Facebook, Twitter, etc, etc.
