Dear kumar,

Now that the forum rules have been finalized and cleared with SI, you can again post here if you want, and if not then that's fine too, but you would also have to remove the ignore since you can't post on a forum with the moderator on ignore...

Thanks...

You may think that is funny. I think it is a dirty, low-down cheap-shot against the President of the United States - and definitely breaks the Thread rules.

ABSOLUTELY NO JOKES OR ATTACKS OR NEGATIVE COMMENTS AT OR AGAINST THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES WILL BE TOLERATED... ANY VIOLATION WHATSOEVER OF THIS REQUEST WILL BE ADDRESSED RAPIDLY AND WITHOUT MERCY...

GROSS TETE, La. - A strange encounter with a camel led an unidentified woman to bite the exotic animal's testicles after it sat on her, according to reports.

Caspar the camel lives at Tiger Truck Stop in Gross Tete, Louisiana and his enclosure is surrounded by fencing and signs that warn visitors to stay out.

The woman's husband reportedly threw dog treats inside Caspar's enclosure, prompting the dog to run under the fence, according to The Advocate.

Authorities said Caspar got spooked by the intrusion and started chasing the woman when she went into the enclosure to rescue her dog, WBRZ reported.

That's when the camel sat on the woman. "I bit his testicles to get him off of me," she told Iberville Parish Deputy Louis Hamilton Jr.

The couple were cited for criminal trespassing and violation of the leash law.

Tiger Truck Stop wasn't cited due to the posted signage and fenced enclosure.

People are posting their genitals on Reddit to ‘diagnose’ STDs

Three sexually transmitted diseases hit new highs again in US

Social media is rife with graphic images of genitals — but not always for the reasons you think.

The high cost of health care as well as the shame that often comes with discussing sensitive subjects with doctors are leading sick people to crowdsource Google, Reddit and other internet research sources for a medical diagnosis — especially those related to STDs, according to new report published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

It’s a trend, researchers found, that has skyrocketed in 2019.

“Online someone can post a picture yet remain mostly anonymous,” Dr. Eric Leas of the University of California, San Diego, who worked on the study, told CNBC. “This can overcome some of the embarrassment that might come with going to ask a doctor.”

Considering rates of syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia hit an all time high in 2018, doctors worry that this trend may indicate there are many patients out there not receiving proper treatment for their illnesses.

“Shame or a lack of access means many are missing an opportunity to get professional, life-saving help,” says study co-author Dr. Davey Smith, the chief of infectious diseases and global public health at UC San Diego.

Researchers decided to focus on Reddit, a site that hosts hundreds of thousands of subject-specific forums, called Subreddits, some of which pertain to health and medicine. Specifically, posts in the community r/STD, which has more than 10,000 members, including some certified physicians, were analyzed for a period starting November 2010 through February of this year — a total of 16,979 threads.

Study authors revealed a steady rise in the group’s activity. There were just eight posts total between November and December of 2010. By November and December of 2018, there was close to 850.

Overall, 58 percent of all posts found explicitly asked members to ponder a diagnosis, and 31 percent of those included a photo of their symptoms.

“What is wrong with my penis?” wrote one user recently on r/STD, which includes four links to images to demonstrate the symptoms. The worried patient went on to explain a mysterious occurrence of “pimples” on his genitals, and also mentioned concurrent “flu like symptoms.” Other discussions in the community — for example, “ White thing on inside of foreskin” and “ Anyone think this looks like HPV?” — show the many creative explanations for unusual symptoms posited by members, including ingrown hairs, overly eager masturbation, and the ever-popular diagnosis of genital herpes.

Researchers found that many are turning to social media to avoid an embarrassing, in-person conversation with their doctor, while others may be looking for “a sense of connection” by commiserating with strangers on the internet, says study co-lead Dr. Alicia Nobles. The armchair physicians of Reddit are fast, too, as close to 90 percent of users received a response to their concern within the first 24 hours.

“Social media was not built to deliver health care,” Nobles says. “Currently, we don’t know if STDs, or other health issues, can be accurately diagnosed online, especially since people’s requests vary in the information they provide.”

While a lucky few may be led to a proper prognosis, a misdiagnosis, Nobles cautions, “could result in greater harm to themselves or passing an infection along to others.”

Parasitic worm crawled up British tourist’s penis and laid eggs inside him

James Michael urged people not to swim in Lake Malawi (Picture: SWNS) A British man had to spend months in hospital and lost the use of his legs after a parasitic worm crawled up his penis.

James Michael, 32, was travelling around south-eastern Africa with friends when they spent a while on the shores of Lake Malawi. The group of four swam and canoed for three hours a day in the freshwater lake, and it’s here that James was exposed to the worm. Without him realising, it burrowed its way inside him and laid eggs, which infected him with bilharzia. He slowly became so ill that his immune system went into overdrive, and attacked his spine, preventing him from using his legs. After a stint in a wheelchair he had to use crutches for four months, as well as suffering digestion and toilet problems. James Michael canoeing at Lake Malawi in southeastern Africa in 2017 (Picture: SWNS) He suffered from extreme acne caused by steroids (Picture: SWNS) Luckily, he has now made a full recovery – but is warning others not to swim where there is a risk of waterborne disease. James, from Kensington in London, said: ‘When I look back at photos from my time in Africa, it’s weird to think that’s where the parasite crawled up my penis. ‘That wasn’t exactly how I imagined the trip of a lifetime with my friends going – the whole experience was surreal and strange.’ He and his friends went on the trip in August 2017, travelling from Zambia to Zimbabwe, before visiting Malawi for five days. It wasn’t until October 2018, over a year later, that he began to lose feeling in his legs. He didn’t connect it at first to swimming in the lake, at first assuming it was fatigue from cycling. However, the symptoms didn’t improve and started to get worse. Within a few weeks it was taking him five minutes to climb up 15 steps to his flat. James Michael in Chelsea and Westminster hospital in December 2018 (Picture: SWNS) He went to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in November 2018 when he woke up sweating uncontrollably, and started to worry he had MS or motor neurone disease. Doctors gave him antibiotics and sent him home, but a week later with things still getting worse, he went back again. He said: ‘I explained to them that something serious was going on. ‘I went to the neurology department, and they did blood tests to see what was up. ‘They determined quite quickly that my immune system was attacking my spine, leading to the loss of control of my legs. ‘I was put on a six-month course of steroids to counter this, but they didn’t actually know what had caused this.’ Doctors from the Hospital For Tropical Diseases eventually diagnosed him correctly just before Christmas and he was given suitable medication. He said: ‘That killed the infection but I was left basically debilitated.’ He spent Christmas in hospital (Picture: SWNS) James Michael (middle) with friends at Lake Malawi (Picture: SWNS) He had to spend three months in hospital using a wheelchair, then four months on crutches, until April. He also had to deal with extreme acne caused by steroids, diarrhoea, and using a catheter because he couldn’t use the loo. James said: ‘The pain has been like nothing I’ve ever know. At times, it has been an excruciating physical pain that’s been debilitating. “Early in my recovery – sometime in January – I had a really terrible acne outbreak that went all down my back and down my arms. ‘I couldn’t sleep for a month because lying on my back hurt. I couldn’t really be under running water either, so I had to shower my front instead. ‘In January, I couldn’t use the toilet normally, so had to use a catheter. That was quite embarrassing for me because it’s not something you associate with young guys. James also lost his appetite and struggled to maintain a sex life with his girlfriend. ‘My girlfriend couldn’t hug me because just to touch me hurt and we’ve not been intimate with each other because it’s just too painful for me,’ he said. ‘I’ll certainly think twice before taking a dip in Lake Malawi.’ Got a story for Metro.co.uk? Please Stop!

Please can everyone stop drinking their own urine? It’s really not very good for you

Ashitha Nagesh26 September 2018

Say hello to the latest health fad - it's even yellower than a turmeric latte, and more bitter than a charcoal lemonade.

Yep, it's urine. It's drinking your own urine.

While drinking your own pee seems like the kind of thing you'd only do if you were trapped up a mountain or stranded in a desert somewhere, it looks like some people have started gulping down the golden stuff in the privacy of their own homes.

For example, Kayleigh Oakley, a 33-year-old yoga teacher from Newington, Kent, claims drinking her own urine has given her relief from a number of long-term health issues, including autoimmune disorder Hashimoto’s thyroid disease, and chronic pain condition fibromyalgia.

She tells Press Association she started drinking her own pee - which some people call “urine therapy” but is also known as urophagia - two years ago.

“I heard that urine can reset the immune system, promote general good health, and is good for the skin,” she says. “So thought I would give it a go.”

And give it a go she did. Now, not only does she drink a jar of fresh wee every day, she also uses cotton wool to dab it all over her face - which she claims keeps her skin “glowing”.

Surprisingly, Kayleigh isn’t the only person to extol the benefits of urophagia recently.

Just last week, Leah Sampson, a 46-year-old woman from Alberta, Canada, told The Sun that drinking her own urine helped her lose half her body weight.

Leah said that weighing almost 120kg left her desperate for a fix - which led her to wonder whether urine could help.

“My friend sent me a YouTube video link of the [urine] therapy," she said. "I stood up in the bathtub, urinated into my hands, and drank it. I noted immediately that I ingested too much sodium and vowed to begin removing sodium from my diet immediately.”

For Leah Sampson, 46, her own urine was the 'magic liquid' that helped her shed nearly half her weight. Sampson is so convinced with the health benefits of her own urine she washes her hair, brushed her teeth and even uses it to rinse her eyes with it. https://t.co/0x79oEZ7yw

Now she not only drinks urine but also gargles it in the mornings when she brushes her teeth and uses it as eye drops. But before everyone rushes off to try this apparent cure-all, just remember doctors really don't recommend it.

But that didn't stop Faith Canter, 39, who revealed earlier this month she started drinking urine to help with an insect bite.

Faith, who's originally from Aberdeen but now lives in Portugal, said she tried drinking her own wee after an allergic reaction to a mosquito bite caused her eye to swell up.

She says it "felt a little disgusting" at first, but the bite healed within three days.

“I have continued to drink some of my urine every morning since and I’m being bitten far less than ever before. When I am bitten, they never swell or itch, they are just tiny little pin pricks," she adds.

And of course you may remember that in June an unnamed woman went viral on Facebook, after she posted a video of herself drinking her dog’s urine.

In it, she takes her dog for a walk in the park, waits until he has to go, and then collects his wee in a cup. Then, on camera, she drinks it.

“Until I first drank my dog's pee, I was depressed, I was sad, and I had bad acne,” the woman says after finishing the last drop.

Now, despite the sudden plethora of people gulping down the salty stuff, many doctors agree that it’s not actually good for you.

For one thing, urine is essentially a waste product - meaning it’s made up of a mix of water and stuff your body has already worked hard to get rid of.

"It is a common belief that urine is sterile - which it normally is if you don't have a problem with your renal tract,” Dr Zubair Ahmed tells BBC Three.

“However, once it leaves the body, it can be contaminated with certain bacteria - and ingesting this bacteria can make you feel unwell and can lead to serious complications.”

ISTOCK

We'll stick to tea, thanks

Infection risks aside, Dr Ahmed adds there’s actually no medical evidence to show urophagia benefits your health in any way.

“Urination is one way where our body gets rid of toxic by-products,” he explains. “There is no evidence at all that ingesting these substances has any health benefits. While drinking a small amount of urine is unlikely to be hazardous to your health, there is not enough modern evidence of its efficacy to suggest drinking it is healthy.”

And Dr Andrew Thornber warns that you risk reintroducing dangerous waste products back into your system when you drink pee.

“The whole point of urinating is for the kidneys to filter the blood and it gets rid of any excess fluid and salts, as well as minerals,” he tells BBC Three. “Urine in a healthy person is made up of about 95% water, but the other 5% is waste products the body is looking to expel - such as potassium and nitrogen - which, if you have too much in your body, can cause problems.”

At the same time, Dr Thornber adds, drinking urine can be really harsh on your gut and cause problems with your kidneys.

“When you drink urine, it will eventually come back out again and be much more concentrated, which could lead to gut problems,” he says. “The kidneys will have to work hard to filter out all the excess again, putting strain on them.

“Some people think drinking urine gives you a quick vitamin shot but there are much healthier ways of making sure you get your vitamins such as eating a healthy and balanced diet or taking supplements.”
(lol)

Doctors say it's not good for you (really? LOL)

It’s not just doctors warning against it either - a lot of nutritionists and dieticians are against wee-drinking too.

Aisling Pigott, a spokeswoman for the British Dietetic Association, says: “There is no evidence or advice which would encourage anybody to drink their own urine.”

And nutritionist Keri Filtness agrees. She tells BBC Three it’s a myth that being 95% water makes urine safe to drink, adding the other 5% makes a lot of difference.

"Some of the waste products excreted via urine, such as nitrogen, sodium and other minerals, may cause issues such as dehydration if they are consumed excessively,” she says.

Keri’s suggestion for a healthy alternative? “Stick to water or herbal tea!”

Indeed - we think we'll do just that.
