Where did all the warm air go that was pushed out of the US west by the weather breaking record cold ? Pushed off to the coasts and up the seaboards .

The sun does not lie , the sun has no agenda . The sun has been blank but for 1 or 2 sun spots /day since Jan . Please see Maunder minimum wikipedia . Please note solar flare count .

Please see Zharkova . Message 32287590

So first of all, there is a big difference between weather (local and short term) and climate (global and long term).

er umm... a tad patronizing no ? ;) .. but glad you brought that up.. House on fire folks point to a weather feature called hurricanes all the time to describe a problem.. but fact is .. hurricanes are weather features.. not climate.. no ? like consecutive cold Novembers in Toronto ?

as to local. weather is the SINGLE most important factor in a garden .. Climate is what you expect.. weather is what you get.. So two seasons in the GTA do not a trend make.. granted... well Bob on the garden thread may not get his garlic in.. too much snow/cold before Nov 1 in Minnesota .. AB and SK and BC interior are freezing.. yes AK is warmer than normal... A huge locality and huge % of earth .. no ?

Now I really do not buy into the CO2 story... because scientific facts show.. we have had far more CO2 in the atmosphere and life flourished.. .. The other church of solar flares and such is equally not on mark IMO... so I am non partisan... but as TJ says.. Lonely path = right way...
most folks do not like to think they want easy to believe... let someone else think for me... and we get... drum roll.. our governments..

and let's be CLEAR... I am NOT disputing overall temperature... I am saying it may be moot...

You are an engineer right ? ... I would encourage you to look a the idea of the earth's axis, obliqueness and how the axis is moving.. the obliqueness is decreasing... and the cycle length is particularly interesting ... you will easily understand the ramifications of that with a bit of google.. When one googles (I already knew :) what causes seasons there is always the codicil stated some people think it is because the sun is closer and further......... and that is said to be not true,,, which is a quite correct statement.. centre on centre.. The obliqueness does matter because distance and ray angle changes for parts at poles.. and low and behold the real temp changes are manifesting themselves at the poles.. we are losing ice...

Wait !!! the deniers (whoever or whatever that means ) say but the ice is increasing in the Antarctic... Of course brilliant (heavy sarcasm) .. when it it is really really really cold snow is really really really rare. Antarctica like much of northern Canada is a frozen dessert.. that changes though if we get warmer.. So a thinking person aware of science will conclude.. oh.. it is likely getting warmer at the south pole also ... hence more snow,... yet still really cold and hence more ice...

NOW.. we have not even touched upon plate tectonics.. which have made a huge impact in a geological second.. in many US places... Heck recently a new submerged continent was found under the Med ? recently .. no not Atlantis :)

Plate tectonics which we have no control over are a big factor also as they affect the axis angle..

Now some more lighthearted stuff...

Greenland ice melting ( I did know it was actually same stuff as Canadian shield ) .. Forget Mr. Trump.. Canada should buy it !! we already got screwed on AK because of foolish Brit meddling in Crimea !!!

I expect that the milder weather to actually destroy or at least complicate the life for a lot of gardeners in Canada.

I am already a zone buster... it is getting tougher.. You said weather.. but CERTAINLY you meant climate..

Weather is NOT milder as much as more extreme.. that is what kill gardens... Milder weather would be boon.. not a killer .. climate not necessarily so..

That statement is dead wrong

This story is lot more complicated than CO2 or solar min/max... but thinking is work.. and the elected folks are typically the least well equipped in that regard..

I cold go on.. but my fish need frying :)

Let's go get some Costco bargains.. that is important.. and we deserve our fate.. not al of us but most... majority rules :(

No one has a clue what the normal climate should be because it has been changing continuously for billions of years.

Toronto creates it's own weather like other built up areas. It's temperatures are altered by human activity. Much of Ontario has been getting colder in the past few years. Past temperature records have been "adjusted" so the truth has been obliterated. Eastern Ontario has been getting colder the last few years and it has affected growing seasons and boating seasons.

Reviewing the last 100 years is an exercise in futility. It proves nothing. The geological record clearly shows that the past has been a lot warmer and a lot colder than the present in all locations on earth. It is impossible to deduce a "normal" climate. For tens of thousands of years Toronto slumbered under two kilometers of ice.

warmest October

Again.. accuweather... Weather network..are typically off.. again the reason I posted the NASA link.. using the infrared and not a bunch of easily gamed sensors.. which can easily be manipulated.

at times I think the CO2 issue is a giant straw man argument to take eyes of the public off the ball..

Were if not so in Canada why do we not here nary a peep about BC's coal exports ? (I am likely solely responsible for half the peeps.. that is sad) Mr. Trudeau never got back to me... Never mind the raw sewage which thanks to Juan de Fuca currents

Do not confuse me with someone who is not an environmentalist .. This needs to stop or lots more trees replanted in place.. thenarwhal.ca and the Amazon .. do you think it not suspicious that eh leader of Brazil did not want water bomber aid from Canada ? A cynic might think Amazon destruction was planned rainforests.mongabay.com <ng>

Could this possibly be a major cause of CO2 emissions .. ie.. we are killing the scrubbers.. ? We already know meat production is definitely... So CO2 goes up.. not sure it is that important since per NASA we only have a 2F temp increase in over 100 years...

I have a few thermometres at my plot.. they never (OK rarely) match the Weather Network for Highland Creek (the hood) and rarely surpass it...

Snow in July .. sure it was not normal July dandelion fluff LOl

Edit: One other thing.. I posted a broad area of irregular temperatures.. purposely.. From Bob T in Minnesota (hope he got his garlic in) to my experience and places in between.. My point is that it is NOT so local .. ie occasion local anomalies.. I googled snow in Toronto in July .. cannot find a reference.. but I do know it snowed in Montréal on May 4, 1956... That was the day I was born.. and my mom never lets me forge it :)
