European Press Sees Clinton Mortally Wounded
yahoo.com

Cartoonists in some newspapers were merciless in their ridicule of the leader of the world's most powerful country.

The French liberal daily Liberation portrayed Clinton howling with pain after his wife placed a mousetrap on his penis. "Everything indicates that the president has handed himself to his enemies on a platter," the newspaper said.

Spain's El Mundo showed Hillary Clinton brandishing a pair of scissors and saying to her husband: "We're going to have to take drastic measures to ensure you finish your term without further hiccups."

You are exactly right. This is what the founders if our country understood and why they instituted our system of checks and balances which have served us so well for 200 years.

There you go again.

Iran-Contra was a policy dispute that the Dems tried to criminalize. If it ever came to a Constitutional showdown, Reagan would have won in the Supreme Court - he had the power and authority to do what he did.

Reagan actually did what FDR did. FDR violated the Neutrality Acts to arm Great Britain - clearly against the law. In fact, FDR was on much thinner Constitutional grounds because Executive powers had not been expanded yet by WWII and Cold War precedents.

Anyway Reagan did what he did to advance a policy which worked - it forced elections in Central America which the good guys won - to the chagrin of Chris Dodd and the Dems who were dead wrong.

In distinction, Clinton's acts are about personal and political corruption - not about political policy disputes.

re: power & the type of person who seeks it

Janice:

I agree with you. I just find that if I have to tolerate questionable characters in high office, at least let me try to find those whose espoused policies/programs will lessen Gov't's intrusions in our lives and impact on our wallets (esp. for destructive giveaway programs).
The trick, I think, is to choose the lesser of the evils and then constantly push them to promote Governmental policies that you agree with. In my case the Republicans' policies are closer to my way of thinking.

Someone said "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely" and I believe it is true. That is also why I think the existence of a free and skeptical press is crucial for a free democracy to function. Their job is to shine the harsh light of day on Government power and procedings.
