I've been encouraged by the good things I've seen from the wealthy.

Many companies are paying their workers even if they can't come to work. Others are paying full pay to work from home even though productivity will be far less, especially for many jobs that require a lot of face time with customers such as my cousin whose company insures bonds for public works projects.

Observations are the most hurt by the closure here in the Silicon Valley, where we have six counties shut down for "shelter in place" as of midnight last night, are those most impacted by over reaching government regulation and taxes.

The GIG workers that could easily step up to deliver groceries and cleaning supplies were severely impacted by a very new law that made them employees with minimum wages, benefits, etc. here in California.

Small business and restaurants have huge property taxes and fee hurdles that show in high rent... so they really can't afford to pay their workers who serve tables and my guess is they will lay off many cooks too as takeout volume won't make up for the lost revenue... especially since many of the restaurants did a big catering business to the tech companies where workers are working from home.

I'd love to support the local restaurants by ordering take-out to pick up on the curb but I worry about some 20 or 30 yr old with COVID-19 and not showing any symptoms handling my food. My girlfriend's mother is 90 so we're taking extra precautions. Fortunately, they read the Chinese newspapers and had me stock them fully for months of TP weeks ago... our hope is that supply lasts until the supply chain is back to normal and us seniors can go to crowds again safely to get more TP...

I'm not a big fan of Trump and didn't vote for him but I find it odd that the CA Democrats were quick to ignore his border protection while the "sanctuary cities" of SF, Oakland, etc. refuse to let the foreign workers on the Princess cruise ship land so it is steaming around our bay as I type... they offloaded all the US citizens and have them in isolation. Irony...

Lets hope all the young Bernie followers don't "get even" by ignoring social distancing so they can wipe out those who require them to pay so much into the SS trust fund that they likely won't get similar payments when they reach age 70.
