Actually, reports have Tripp as a registered independent, not a republican.

Well, the Newsweek story on this reports that she starterd taping at the suggestion of her literary agent.

Tripp is not a Republican. She is a career civil servant who stated while working in the WH during the Bush term: "why am I doing this, I'm not even going to vote for him".
