Yes...as I get older I spend more time watching the birds around the place. Have a watering spot for them. They catch on instantly...always watching and react very quickly to changes in the environment. I am planting some bushes and things to give them more food next year...service berry, sumac, thimble berry. Maybe try putting sunflowers out for them next year. They love the seeds. Were the fires close to you this year? We are locked in that same climate phase you are getting there....unusually warm and very dry. To the north it is colder than usual and I think they are going to get a fierce winter at least along the Rockies. lh
