It is very true!
Despite all the atrocities we see, we live in the most peaceful period in history and humanity is much better behaving now than in any other period. And yet, those atrocities remind us of how far we have to go.
I just finished watching all six seasons of The Vikings and now started on Britania. Our species was brutal, especially with torture to extract information and punish anyone who disagreed with the kings to discourage others.

We've seen genocide on a massive scale many times in the last 100 years so I'm not sure we're that much more evolved, especially when you read about what is happening still in Africa.
I suppose we are going to be stuck between hope and fear for a few more centuries. If we don't destroy ourselves and the planet by then, perhaps we'll have made it past the our pre puberty danger zone.

I think we're in our 20s now... that was when I had enough money to buy all the booze and drugs I wanted plus a sports car to kill myself and others with. Hopefully we reach our 30s as a species!

BTW, I think there are signs of progress. Many are asking if a company should do more than just make money. HP was damned successful because our core values included doing well for our communities as a core value but after profits. I believe that is part of the reason we didn't overbuild in the Silicon Valley as it would make it hard for communities to be affordable so it was better to spread the brains to other areas like Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Colorado to name a few.

Now that SalesFarce has gentrified San Francisco, the CEO is using a lot of his wealth to help SF but my guess is he hasn't figured out that concentrating high paying jobs in a small area - being able to live in the Big, Beautiful San Francisco WAS A HUGE RECRUITING tool for Salesforce as well as Google. Google contracted a fleet of busses so their young recruits could live in SF, take the free bus from SF to and from work where most of their needs like haircuts, meals, etc. were taken care of so all they had to do at home is enjoy the City and support the local pubs. Google was another "Do no Evil" but they failed just by concentrating wealth...

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what happens after the pandemic.
