The catch-22 of the death penalty is that if it were done on the scale required for it to have a deterrent effect, the public would be so appalled they demand it be abolished.

OK, I'll put a few words in on this subject: sorry, Betty, I disagree. Mental state at the time one offs another with a pick-ax seems to me to be psychotic, drugs or no drugs. In Texas, at least in this case, that means you die. I think it's good, (really), that this woman has gotten in better touch with her religious nature, and it appears she may no longer be psychotic, and I wish her well. However I would feel uncomfortable knowing she were living next door to me, (if she were free), and I think the taxpayers in Texas have better things to spend money on. Mainly, I have a hard time getting past the pick-ax part. pete

TX officials sharpening pick-axe.

Karla Faye will go away because if she doesn't, she just might get parole. Crazy isn't it?

I heard an interesting statement this morning: Your not sent to death row to rehabilitate. Regardless of her changes, I still have to remember what she did. If her crime was committed by a man, we wouldn't be chatting about this..
