As for a factor of 3 (3x) - that would have to be some peculiar benchmark that for some reason performed dramatically faster on a PowerPC 750 (G3) than on a Pentium II.

Thanks, Paul...sounds like this Apple commercial can use some serious debunking. I was too far from the TV to see the fine print that explained the test, but the claim was very clear--their chip is 3 times faster than a/any Pentium II (speed not specified as far as I could tell).

I will try to see the commercial again, and get more details...I was a bit shocked and surprised the first time I saw it that I missed a lot.

As for Intel's Pentium II reaching 1000 MHz - no way!

This was uncorroborated hearsay. A fellow in my Air Warrior squadron reported that Intel was showing off 1000mhz PII's at shows--no details given. He visibly salivated over the idea.

Thanks for clearing all this up!

Rick

Paul, re: Apple G3

Same ad only in print in today's WSJ, a PII on a snails back. The only speed statement is "The chip inside every Power Macintosh is up to twice as fast" (as a PentiumII). Obviously "up to" can mean anything.

Paul

Could you tell me how many fabs intel has, how many are running 0.25 micron, and when the rest are scheduled to convert?

Thanks in advance

Andy
