>> If Tesla is the Apple of the EV space, who will be the IBM?

"IBM PC" was not a single product. The hw, the OS, various software and hw add-ons each had a different vendor. Eventually the EV leaders will create industry standards and you will see a similar trend with most EVs.

>> I think a reasonable end game is that ultimately Tesla licenses their software and lets everyone else worry about manufacturing.

Actually, I think if that is the case, TSLA is undervalued. But I don't see that happening for at least another 7 years, if ever, mainly b/c this stage of the business everyone is scared of Tesla and nobody will want to help them. And from Tesla's perspective they will not want to dilute their brand by licensing it to another company. Every big automaker is under the illusion that they can make their own special sauce and see cooperation as an impediment rather than an advantage. The PC was the same. It took a long time for sound and video standards to mature and everyone to agree to bring about plug and play (I think pnp only took off in late '90s).

At least that is how I see it for now.
