Ultimately Jobs vision has proved out though with the iPhone and iPad, and the seamless integration in the Apple universe.

The investing question today is how will Musk proceed. Closed source, he will have a wonderfully profitable niche business - I just don’t see how he can ramp up large scale production and distribution on his own. IBM/Microsoft model, I think he can make a huge and enduring mega fortune dwarfing anything we can imagine today if he settles in to being the software/vision provider, letting everyone else concentrate on manufacturing and distribution.

I’ve seen enough cycles in the auto manufacturing industry that I consider it uninvestable - they all seem like they are one more recession away from bankruptcy. If Musk insists on joining that club big time, he will at some point lose control and Tesla will get watered down to mediocrity.
