China and Taiwan are so intertwined that attempting to take Taiwan by force may do more harm to China than they could ever gain, IMO.

Whoever wrote that article did not think it through.

As I said last night, assume that Putin is militarily successful and gets all that his campaign can deliver. Assume that he gets to make Ukraine a member of the Union State and he suffers no human casualties or long term resistance. Assume further that as a result no other country will dare to want to be too chummy with the NATO.

None of this will happen, but let's assume that it will. This will be as good as a military operation can get. Now walk me through what will happen in the following 10 years after this great victory. How will Putin and Russia end up as winners?

Recommended before comment.

I agree but look at the bright side. Shipping all those jobs to China resulted in an explosion of drug sales wherever entire towns lost their decades-long industries. Short term profits rule! <end sarcasm>

This country does not even resemble the nation I grew up in, when a young child. Frustration with the ruling class is overflowing. Republicans know how to rule but not how to govern. Democrats clearly don't know how to rule, even when they have all the majorities to do so. They don't know how to govern either, and here we are. None of this is sarcasm. Just laying out what I see.

Apologies in advance but Lee's post is so on-target I could not restrain myself.
